WTAF Mission, Vision, and Values

Mission

Our mission is to recognize and honor an outstanding high school football student athlete at the quarterback position from southwestern Pennsylvania who demonstrates “giant” leadership skills on and off of the field; and who is a champion in the legacy of Willie Thrower in the areas of equality, family, and community.

Vision

Our aim is to bring national recognition to Willie Thrower as the first African American quarterback to take a snap in the modern NFL, and to “grow” student athletes and help them develop skills and leadership talents that the quarterback position requires.

Out of recognition for the emergence of girls participating in football as a high school sport, we are developing programming and camps to support their athletic development at the quarterback position.

Values

  • We value programs, events, and student athlete camps, trainings, and other forms of leadership development at no cost to students and their families.

  • We value on-going relationships with student athletes. We know our students by name.

  • We value equity in sports.
