Hello Friends,
Last year I had the honor to be a part of the Willie Thrower “1st Snap” planning committee commemorating the 70th Anniversary of this great athlete’s entry into the National Football League.
One of the committee’s greatest accomplishments was the birth of a community walkathon benefiting the American Heart Association and celebrating Mr. Thrower’s life and legacy. I am excited that the decision has been made to repeat the event annually.
When I think of how heart disease has impacted my family, and is connected to what we eat and breathe, our wellness and self-care, and our daily personal and professional pressures and challenges, the research to learn more about treatment and prevention becomes even more significant.
So, I walk because we need to change past patterns and history; and I ask that you walk for change as well on October 6 - form a team, walk individually, run the course if you want to, or send a donation, but most importantly - join the Thrower family and the Willie Thrower Award Foundation Board of Directors and participate in some way.
Each registered walk will receive a nice gift bag and can win a prize! Prizes are for the following categories:
First registered walker
Coach who recruits the largest team
Top fundraising walker
We can come one step closer to the elimination of this disease and the blessing of a cure.
Let’s join forces so that heart disease can no longer see anymore wins, and like Willie Thrower has taught us patience, perseverance, and purpose, always lead to a touchdown.
We can do this win together!!
Warmly,
Diane Hightower
